Model for meeeeeeee!

This Sunday, I'll be joining the multitude of photographers who are descending upon the Guthrie to take advantage of the fact that we have free rein to take lots of photos inside the building.  It's going to be fantastic fun!  So, would you like to be one of the lucky models who comes along and has fun too?  Carla of Fairshadow Photography and I will be pooling our resources and hopefully coming up with some kickass concepts that we would like to execute.  The more the merrier!  Also, are you a makeup artist would like some great portfolio images taken?  A fashion designer who would like to get some images of a model in your clothes but haven't been able to get a shoot scheduled?  Now's your chance!

Also, would you like to assist?  We could both definitely use some strong hands helping lighten the equipment/prop load and you never know, you might end up in front of the camera too!

For those who have asked, I am continuing to take a hiatus from my photoblog until the 1st.  Just wanted to take a small break before the craziness of the new school semester begins (and given my classes, I'm going to be shooting NONSTOP for the whole thing, so this is going to awesome!).

Family Christmastime

This year I opted to not annoy the crap out of everyone by taking a hundred photos, so this is one of the only images I took at the Plante Family Christmas.  Inara always gets super shy when Grandma Kathy reads the Night Before Christmas, but at least this year she sat close (although Michelle had to sit with her.)  I do regret not getting a better photo of her cute outfit though.

NASA - Discovery and the Lunar Eclipse

Amazingly beautiful. I'm sad that I will never get the chance to see anything from space, let alone a lunar eclipse.

Andrew

My friend Andrew is a hearing aid specialist.  His family got their start making them here in Minnesota, but he's been setting up his shop out in Seattle.  If you or someone you know is in need of hearing help, please check out their site American Hearing Service!

Monochromatic Morrigan

Taken quite some time ago and recently revisited.  This shoot was so much fun, I really wish that I got to do a lot more cosplay shoots!

SnOMG

I meant to post this on the day it happened, but couldn't get a decent internet connection at home.  It's strange how hard it is capture the scale of a snowstorm in a photograph.

A Random Error

For whatever reason, one of my newer memory cards eats one or two images in every set and the result is this weird colour glitch.  I found this particular one interesting and pretty in its own way.

I know I've been bad about posting the last few days, I've been really working hard on finals, but now I'm nearly done, so expect to see me going back to my normal posting schedule!

Portrait of a Self-Portrait

One of my dearest friends, Carla.  I got a great photo of her taking her own self-portrait.  We had an incredibly fun shoot tonight, and I really wish that she and I got to spend a lot more time together.  She is a beautiful person.  <3

Carla is an amazing photographer in her own right, you should really check out her work either at her own website, Fairshadow Photography or you can follow her on Facebook!

Happy Holidays Everyone!

To celebrate the joyous season, and because I'm going to have a much heavier workload this next semester, I'm offering an on-location portrait session for only $40 (studio session for just $65!). This is quite simply rock bottom pricing for me. I'm doing this because this will likely be the last special I can afford to run until June 2011, and to help offset the costs of my Photography final. I'm going to be online only sporadically over the next week so it's important that if you want to take advantage of this offer, you must email me. I hope to hear from you soon! ::Drayke

Minnehaha Falls at Night

I love this place at night.  I would really love to find some time to wander around with a tripod around twilight sometime.  Especially now that it has snowed.

Be a part of my final project!

Would you like to be a part of my final project for Photo I and also get a neat little photo for yourself?  You don't need makeup, fancy hair or be a model!  What I'm looking for is normal Minnesotans, bundled up for the coming snowstorm.  All I want is a photo of you, in your normal snow stuff, outside.  That's it!  Super simple!  See photo for example!  Call it "Sarcastic MN Fashion".  ;)

I'm willing to go all over Minneapolis and St. Paul in the next couple of days, weather permitting, to get the shots that I need.  Are you interested?  Just email drayke@photosynthetique.com if you are, and we'll arrange a meetup.  We could even possibly do this over your lunch hour, between classes, or whenever!  I'm looking forward to hearing from you!

Gold Rock

Located about half a kilometer north of the Split Rock Lighthouse, Gold Rock is the resting place of the Madeira.  One of Minnesota's more well-known shipwrecks, it was one of twenty-nine ships that went down in the Mataafa storm of 1905 and prompted the construction of the lighthouse.   There are some neat photos of the wreck here on The Minnesota Historical Society's website.  The water there is an extremely clear green colour that I always associated with tropical climates, it's really beautiful and I badly wish to return there sometime next summer!

First Snow in Minneapolis 2010

From the first snowfall of 2010.  Michelle, my Mum, and Inara made a snowperson, then a small snow tunnel for Inara to crawl through (it was meant to be an igloo but was too small).  Plus a couple taken in downtown Minneapolis right after Inara's dance class.

Nerds.

[N]erds like us are allowed to be unironically enthusiastic about stuff...nerds are allowed to love stuff, like jump-and-down-in-the-chair-can't-control-yourself love it!  When people call people nerds, mostly what they're saying is, "You like stuff" which is just not a good insult at all, like you are too enthusiastic about the miracle of human consciousness.  -John Green

Balls

Bowling at Curt's Harbor Bowl in Two Harbors, MN.  It's a really cute place that you should totally check out if you have some free time in that area.  It's extremely close to the Two Harbors lighthouse (and not far from the far superior Split Rock Lighthouse) so it's a great place to vacation!
