Gold Rock

Located about half a kilometer north of the Split Rock Lighthouse, Gold Rock is the resting place of the Madeira.  One of Minnesota's more well-known shipwrecks, it was one of twenty-nine ships that went down in the Mataafa storm of 1905 and prompted the construction of the lighthouse.   There are some neat photos of the wreck here on The Minnesota Historical Society's website.  The water there is an extremely clear green colour that I always associated with tropical climates, it's really beautiful and I badly wish to return there sometime next summer!
